The case is fragile and requires extra packaging which increases the shipping costs. To keep the total shipping costs down we pack your other goods, either a kit or assembled machine, inside the case. UPS are currently quoting £80 to ship a case + machine to the US. These charges are DDU, so they include safe delivery of the goods plus transportation expenses and insurance - UPS may invoice you separately for any local import duties.
