John Lancashire - Managing Director

​

John usually describes himself as a mathematician and engineer. As a student he was always interested in astronomy and studied quantum mechanics and general relativity in his final year at Bristol university.

​

Torn between an academic career or a life in business he chose the latter, although he always retained his enthusiasm for science and mathematics. He spent many years working in IT for international companies as a software designer, risk manager and programme director.

​

Much of his work involved persuading customers to accept what was practically achievable rather than “shooting for the Moon”, so he feels a real empathy with the engineers and craftsmen who built the Mechanism aeons ago.  

​

John is a Freeman of the City of London and a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Scientific Instrument Makers.
